Maverick filmmaker, Shoojit Sircar has roped in Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana to play the lead roles in his upcoming film titled, Gulabo Sitabo.

The film has been written by Juhi Chaturvedi, who had also penned Sircar’s Varun Dhawan starrer October. The film will go on floors soon and the makers are planning to release it in November, this year.

Both, Big B and Khurrana are very excited to work on the project and Ayushmann announced the film by sharing a still with Sircar. In the still, he is seen holding the script, with his hands folded in front of his director. Along with the picture, he wrote, “@amitabhbachchan sir aur meri Jodi, ekdum #GulaboSitabo si hogi. Really excited to be a part of this project by my mentor @shoojitsircar! In cinemas this November.”

Shoojit revealed that it’s a quirky story and that he shared it with Big B and Ayushmann as soon as he read it. He wanted to take some time to develop the idea however, everyone showed immense enthusiasm and also figured out their dates. Sircar has worked with Amitabh Bachchan in Piku and Ayushmann had marked his debut with Shoojit's Vicky Donor.

Gulabo and Sitabo are two popular glove puppet characters from Uttar Pradesh. These puppets made of papier-mâché, dressed in colourful, shiny clothes and trinkets, are named after the two heroines, who are represented in the show: Sitabo, the worn out, overworked spouse and Gulabo, the scintillating mistress of the same man. Once popular in UP, the art is almost on the verge of extinction.
