Fang sculpture, of which the Paul Guillaume-André Fourquet figure is one of the most important examples, was one of the first forms of African art to be considered as art, rather than merely ethnography. This figure was in the collection of Paul Guillaume, the pioneering early 20th century dealer who organised some of the first African art exhibitions in Paris, before being bought in 1965 by André Fourquet. It will go on sale in the African and Oceanic Art auction in Paris on 3 December.
