Lessons Learnt By Bollywood In 2015

Last year, the biggest lesson that Bollywood got was that two big films should never release together. Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale releasing together made sure that none of the films made huge business. Another thing that came forth was that never play with public sentiments as it backfires and affects your film. Dilwale was boycotted on the social platform due to Shah Rukh Khan’s comment about religious intolerance. Dilwale lost a lot of revenue due to it. The third lesson that Bollywood learnt was that they have to entertain through their films. Ranbir Kapoor had a bad year last year with Roy and Bombay Velvet bombing at the box office. Even Tamasha was not well received by the audience.
2015 also taught that too much good also fails. Shamitabh was one such example. Big B has a voice which is as famous as him. However, the film bombed as people did not welcome the excess dialogues of Amitabh Bachchan in the movie. Series films did well in 2015 like Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Welcome Back, ABCD 2 and Pyar Ka Panchnama 2. Fast And Furious 7 also broke all business records in India.
Another lesson learnt by Bollywood was that marketing has to be in line with the content of the film. Shandaar was one such film which bombed due to disparity in the film content and the trailer. Other thing that came forth was that a film turns costly when the actors charge their full remuneration. Akshay Kumar’s Baby was one such film. Bollywood learnt that they cannot lean on earning through satellite rights as if the film gets an A certificate, it may not sell its satellite rights. Example was NH 10. Anushka Sharma had a lot of trouble selling the satellite rights.
